The frequency of bilateral cricket between India and South Africa has been very high in 2022. At the start of the year, the Men in Blue visited the Proteas for a Test series and an ODI series. Then in June 2022, the Temba Bavuma-led outfit took on the Indian team in a five-match T20I series in India.
Now, the two nations are playing a three-match T20I series, which will be followed by a three-match ODI series. The Indian squad for the upcoming ODI series against the Proteas has been announced. KL Rahul captained the Indian team in the series which happened in January, but he will miss the upcoming series owing to the T20 World Cup. Meanwhile, all-rounder Venkatesh Iyer has been dropped from the side.
Middle Order – Virat Kohli, Rishabh Pant and Suryakumar Yadav
The middle-order of this team features three players who will play for India in the ICC T20 World Cup 2022. Virat Kohli, Rishabh Pant and Suryakumar Yadav will leave for Australia soon, which is why they have not been picked.
All Rounders – Jayant Yadav and Ravichandran Ashwin
Two off-spin bowling all-rounders feature in this playing XI. Jayant Yadav has been out of the mix since that series in January, while Ashwin will leave for Australia soon.
Bowlers missing for series against South Africa – Yuzvendra Chahal, Jasprit Bumrah, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Prasidh Krishna
India’s pace attack will look completely different in the upcoming ODI series against South Africa. The likes of Jasprit Bumrah, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Yuzvendra Chahal will miss the series because of the T20 World Cup, while Prasidh Krishna is not present in the team as well. Fast bowler Navdeep Saini will be the 12th man of this squad.
