IPL 2024 is about to begin. As per reports, the start date for IPL 2024 will likely be 22 March, which means the biggest event of the year is less than two months away. Despite a clash with the general elections in India, the BCCI is expected to conduct IPL in India only.
With the addition of two new teams, IPL has become a long tournament now. In 2023, fans saw how almost every team had to use more than one captain due to injuries or unavailability of main captain. It is important to know who will be the deputy skipper, and here are our predictions for the same.
1. Probable GT vice-captain in IPL 2024 – Rashid Khan
Leg-spinner Rashid Khan was the deputy skipper to Hardik Pandya in 2022 and 2023 at Gujarat Titans. Now, he can play the same role with Shubman Gill as the GT captain in 2024.
2. Probable CSK vice-captain in IPL 2024 – Ruturaj Gaikwad
Some fans believe that Ruturaj Gaikwad should be the next captain of CSK after MS Dhoni. If that is the case, then Gaikwad should be groomed as vice-captain in 2024.
3. Probable MI vice-captain in IPL 2024 – Rohit Sharma
Although Mumbai Indians have appointed Hardik Pandya as the new skipper, Rohit Sharma will be a part of the leadership group as well. If Hardik is unavailable, Rohit should lead MI.
4. KKR vice-captain in IPL 2024 – Nitish Rana
Kolkata Knight Riders have already confirmed their vice-captain for the new season. Nitish Rana, who led KKR in IPL 2023, will be the deputy skipper to Shreyas Iyer this year.
5. Probable LSG vice-captain in IPL 2024 – Krunal Pandya
When KL Rahul got injured in IPL 2023, Krunal Pandya stepped up and captained the LSG team. It looks like Pandya is the vice-captain of the Lucknow Super Giants now.
6. Delhi Capitals – David Warner
Delhi Capitals have one of the most experienced batters in the squad in the form of David Warner. He captained DC in the absence of Rishabh Pant last season. With Pant set to be back as skipper now, Warner should be the deputy captain.
7. Royal Challengers Bangalore – Virat Kohli
Virat Kohli stepped down as captain of RCB after the 2021 season. However, in 2023, when RCB captain Faf du Plessis was injured, Virat returned as captain. It looks like Kohli is the vice-captain of RCB now.
8. Punjab Kings – Sam Curran
England all-rounder Sam Curran made his IPL captaincy debut in 2023 when Shikhar Dhawan was injured. Curran should play the same role for Punjab Kings in 2024 as well.
9. Sunrisers Hyderabad – Aiden Markram
Former champions Sunrisers Hyderabad might appoint World Cup winning skipper Pat Cummins as their new captain. Hence, SRH captain of IPL 2023, Aiden Markram might become the vice-captain now.
10. Rajasthan Royals – Jos Buttler
Sanju Samson should continue as the skipper of the Rajasthan Royals in the 2024 season. Jos Buttler, who led England to the T20 World Cup 2022 trophy, should be the vice-captain.
