In an exciting news for cricket fans, all six SA20 teams have revealed the list of players they have retained for the upcoming edition of the premier domestic T20 competition in South Africa.
The auction for the next season will be hosted by Cricket South Africa (CSA) on September 27 in Johannesburg. This auction presents a golden opportunity for all teams to bolster their squads and gear up for the second edition of this thrilling franchise-based tournament.

Salary purse for each team in the second season of SA20 has been increased to R39.1 million, providing them with an extra R5.1 million compared to the inaugural edition. It’s interesting to note that Pretoria Capitals, the runners-up from the previous season, will be entering the auction with the highest purse of R9.737 million.
With this increased budget, the teams will have more financial flexibility to target key players and build strong squads for the upcoming competition. It’s fascinating to see how the purse allocation stacks up for the other SA20 teams as well. Paarl Royals are second on the list with R8.865 million in their purse, giving them ample opportunity to enhance their squad for the upcoming season.
Meanwhile, Joburg Super Kings have R6.1 million left in their purse, and MI Cape Town will enter the auction with R5.05 million in their pocket. It’s interesting to note that the champions of the inaugural season, Sunrisers Easter Cape, and Durban Super Giants, have the smallest purse available with R1.865 million and R1.675 million, respectively. Additionally, SA20’s guidelines for squad composition are quite comprehensive. All teams are allowed a maximum squad strength of 19 players, with a minimum of 10 South African players and a maximum of seven overseas players.
