Virat Kohli leaves a big vacancy at RCB

After giving up his T20I captaincy, Virat Kohli announced that he would do the same with regards to RCB, as well. It has been a journey of close to a decade for Virat as the team’s captain. Ahead of the mega-auction before IPL 2022, he has now stated that he would no longer be the captain. However, he mentioned that he would continue playing for the franchise.

It is hard to find a captain in IPL. Moreover, established Indian cricketers are expensive and having a foreign captain can be a liability. Hence, RCB will have big shoes to fill in the coming months.

The future captaincy candidates for RCB as per Manjrekar

While talking on ESPNCricinfo, former cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar talked about who could replace Virat. Firstly, he made it clear that AB de Villiers will not be an ideal choice. He said that this is because ABD might not play for three more years.

Hence, Manjrekar said that Kieron Pollard, David Warner and Suryakumar Yadav would be the ideal options for RCB. All three are unlikely to be retained by their current franchises. Hence, they might be available in the auctions. They are experienced in the league and can step in as the skipper. While Pollard and Warner already have IPL captaincy experience, SKY has captained in domestic cricket and can be a good choice. This will be one of the major talking points as IPL 2021 gets over.
