Speaking about what happened at the toss first, Gujarat Titans skipper Hardik Pandya handed Rajasthan Royals captain Sanju Samson his 13th defeat in the toss. In a brief interview at the toss, Hardik said:

“We’re going to bowl first. Looks like a pretty decent track to bat on but simply because in the last couple of months there have been no matches here so we want to see how it’ll play. The boys are pumped up for this game. (What’s the message been?) To make sure we treat this game as simple as possible.”

Mohammad Shami opened the bowling for the Gujarat Titans. He bowled a decent first over with Jos Buttler and Yashasvi Jaiswal scoring runs for the Rajasthan Royals. Uncapped left-arm fast bowler Yash Dayal bowled the second over of the match. On the final ball of the over, he bowled a delivery outside off to Jaiswal.

The left-handed batter edged the delivery, and the ball went straight to the Gujarat Titans wicket-keeper Wriddhiman Saha. The umpire was not sure whether the batter was out or not, but Jaiswal showed Spirit of Cricket and walked back to the pavilion.
