The 46th match of IPL 2022 happened last night at the MCA Stadium in Pune, where the Chennai Super Kings defeated the Sunrisers Hyderabad by 13 runs. Captain MS Dhoni made a glorious return as the skipper of the Chennai Super Kings team as the franchise registered their third victory of the season.
SRH captain Kane Williamson won the toss and opted to field first. The decision did not work in his team’s favor as the duo of Ruturaj Gaikwad and Devon Conway destroyed the SRH bowling attack. They stitched up a magnificent opening partnership of 182 runs to ensure that the CSK bowlers have enough runs to defend.
Gaikwad unluckily lost his wicket for 99, while Conway remained not out till the end on 85. T Natarajan picked up two wickets for Hyderabad. Chennai finished with 202/2 in their 20 overs. Chasing 203 to win the match, SRH got off to a great start as well, but captain MS Dhoni’s bowling changes and tactics brought his team back into the contest.
Eventually, CSK kept SRH down to 189/6 in 20 overs. Speaking at the post-match presentation after his team’s defeat, SRH skipper Kane Williamson said:
“I suppose when you get over 200, there is a real challenge while chasing. At the end of the day, they played really well, put us under pressure and got a good total on the board. Lots of positives for us to take away from this game.”
