Australian Test team captain Pat Cummins made his return to the IPL earlier tonight. He is playing for the Kolkata Knight Riders in the match against Mumbai Indians right now. While Cummins is famous for his bowling, he has changed the match tonight with his batting performance.

The Aussie player destroyed the duo of Daniel Sams and Jasprit Bumrah to guide the Kolkata Knight Riders home. Like the previous game, it looked like KKR were in trouble when they lost early wickets, but in the previous match it was Andre Russell and tonight it is Cummins who has changed the match with his big-hitting skills.

While batters find it hard to play big shots against Bumrah, Pat Cummins has relatively found it easier. He finished with 56 runs off 15 balls as KKR chased the 162-run target in 16 overs. He scored 35 runs in the over bowled by Daniel Sams to finish things off in style.

Many fans on Twitter felt that the Mumbai Indians were ready for Andre Russell after his heroics against the Punjab Kings, but Cummins came out of syllabus. Here’s what Venkatesh Iyer, who scored a fifty in the match, told during an interview after the match:

“For everyone other than Pat it looked tricky. We got to give it to him for finishing it on this wicket that is tricky to bat on. I think there will be days where you do not hit the ball well but it is important to hang in there. With some big hitters coming down it was important for me to play that anchor role.”
