Suresh Raina has made a big announcement on Twitter today. The former Chennai Super Kings star has confirmed that he will no longer be a part of the Indian Premier League auctions going forward. Raina played for CSK from IPL 2008 to 2015 and then from 2018 to 2021. He was a part of all the tournaments where CSK made it to the playoffs.

In 2016 and 2017, when Chennai Super Kings received a two-year suspension from the Indian Premier League, Raina captained the new Gujarat Lions team. He guided the Rajkot-based franchise to the top of the IPL points table in their first season itself.

Raina was the second captain of the Chennai Super Kings team. He had a magnificent stint with CSK in the league. Speaking of his numbers in the IPL, Raina played 205 matches, where he got a chance to bat in 200 innings. The southpaw aggregated 5,528 runs. For a long time, he held the number one position on the all-time batting leaderboard of the Indian Premier League.

He played 176 matches for the Chennai Super Kings, scoring 4,687 runs. His two IPL centuries came while playing for the Men in Yellow. Also, he took 24 wickets for the Super Kings with his right-arm off-spin. Raina’s fielding was exceptional as well, and he took many memorable catches and executed some fantastic run-outs during his career.

Announcing his retirement from IPL and all formats of Indian domestic cricket, Raina wrote on Twitter today:

“It has been an absolute honour to represent my country & state UP. I would like to announce my retirement from all formats of Cricket. I would like to thank @BCCI, @UPCACricket, @ChennaiIPL, @ShuklaRajiv sir & all my fans for their support and unwavering faith in my abilities.”
