After two forgettable outings with the bat, Team India finally did well in this department against the Afghans. The men in blue posted a total of 210 runs on the board, the highest total set by a team in this World Cup. The openers led the show with a 140-run partnership before Hardik Pandya and Rishabh Pant gave a good finish to the innings.

In the 19th over, Hardik Pandya hit a ball high in the air but Najibullah Zadran dropped the catch, which appeared to be simple. After knowing that the catch was dropped, Hardik went for the second and at the same time, Afghan keeper Shahzad tried to receive the throw. Both were focussing on their tasks and hence, Hardik collided headlong with Shahzad on the field. However, there was nothing serious and after a quick while, the play resumed.
