The Indian Premier League is the biggest T20 cricketing league on the planet right now, and many brands wish to associate themselves with the IPL. The BCCI launched the competition back in the year 2008, a year after the Indian cricket team won the ICC T20 World Cup 2007.

In the inaugural season of the Indian Premier League, there were eight franchises, namely Chennai Super Kings, Mumbai Indians, Royal Challengers Bangalore, Kings XI Punjab, Delhi Daredevils, Deccan Chargers, Rajasthan Royals and Kolkata Knight Riders. DLF was the first title sponsor of the league. A few years later, the BCCI decided to add two more teams – Pune Warriors India and Kochi Tuskers Kerala. However, they exited the tournament soon.

Even the Deccan Chargers left after the 2012 season, and they were replaced by the Sunrisers Hyderabad. In 2016 and 2017, Gujarat Lions and Rising Pune Supergiant replaced Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals for two seasons. From 2018 to 2021, the league featured eight teams, and now in 2022 again, there will be a ten team competition, with Lucknow and Ahmedabad joining the league.
