Kieron Pollard‘s dismissal against South Africa on Tuesday triggered the memory of a similar strategy used in the Indian Premier League. In this article, we take a look at how Twitter reacted to the Pollard dismissal that reminded the tactic used by MS Dhoni in the 2010 IPL Final.
West Indies lose two games in a row
West Indies have now lost two games in a row in the T20 World Cup. With this, the team’s chances of making it to the knockout stages have come down. Yet again, it was the batting unit that let down the nation. Lendl Simmons played a poor knock and that resulted in West Indies giving an underwhelming target to the Proteas. South Africa then chased the target down with eight wickets in hand.
Twitter reacts to the Pollard dismissal that reminded everyone of MS Dhoni’s tactic
In the first innings, Kieron Pollard was dismissed by Dwaine Pretorius. Rassie van der Dussen was almost directly behind the bowler and took a good catch to complete the wicket. MS Dhoni had used this strategy way back in 2010. At that time, Albie Morkel was the bowler while Mathew Hayden was the fielder. Twitter took note of the same and reacted to the same:
South Africa recreated the dismissal of Pollard from the 2010 IPL final again in T20 World Cup 2021 – that was a terrific catch from RVD.

MS Dhoni was the first captain who realised this is a catching fielder straight for Kieron Pollard. #T20worldcup pic.twitter.com/TXxAN4ntUU

Every team has now started to keep a fixed straight field for Pollard. Dhoni started it & everyone's following the field placement now

Have an extremely straight fielder behind the bowler. Usually it's on the boundary but today, #SAF has kept one in the Circle #SAvWI #WIvSA
Pollard caught by fielder placed just behind umpire ! So Bavuma gets " Dhoni…Saheb …Ball ke Award "!

That straightish mid-on position should be called Pollard's point/ Dhoni's point. It is completely their legacy.

Cricket fraternity should thankful to Dhoni whenever they're getting Pollard out by placing field set straight at sight screen.

He did it amidst of carnage by Pollard in epic IPL final a decade long ago. #T20WorldCup
