In a groundbreaking moment within the Pakistan Super League (PSL), Multan Sultans have introduced their latest addition to the coaching staff, Catherine Dalton, the former international cricketer from Ireland, who will now take on the role of a fast-bowling coach.
Notably, Catherine Dalton’s appointment marks a historic milestone, as she becomes the very first female coach in the long history of the PSL.
With an impressive cricketing background, Catherine Dalton holds the prestigious title of an England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) cricket certified Level 3 Advanced Coach. Her coaching journey has traversed various continents, including positions at the esteemed National Fast Bowling Academy in the United Kingdom and the renowned Ultimate Pace Foundation in India.
Catherine Dalton’s journey is an international one, beginning in England and eventually leading her to embrace Irish citizenship in 2015. Following this, she showcased her cricketing prowess on the field, representing Ireland in four ODIs and four T20 international matches.
Beyond her accomplishments as a coach, Catherine Dalton boasts a 1st Class Honours Degree from St Mary’s University College in London. Her passion for sports is not confined to cricket alone; she has also left her mark on the football pitch, having been associated with prominent English football clubs such as West Ham and Tottenham Hotspur of the Premier League.
Despite her football talents, Catherine remained steadfast in her commitment to cricket. Her journey began in 2007 when she joined Essex to play county cricket, where she spent five dedicated years. In 2012, she made a pivotal move to Middlesex, where her exceptional skills quickly gained recognition, earning her the title of Middlesex Player of the Year in 2013. Catherine returned to Essex in 2019, further solidifying her cricketing legacy.
One notable chapter in Catherine Dalton’s cricketing journey was her astonishing unbeaten innings of 214 against Bishop’s Stortford in an ECB Premier League match for Finchley County Club. This remarkable performance set a competition record that still stands today.
Interestingly, Catherine Dalton’s coaching portfolio extends beyond women’s cricket. She previously assumed the role of a bowling coach for the Rajasthan Cricket Association, becoming the first female to achieve such an honor in the realm of men’s cricket.
