Yuzvendra Chahal was the highest wicket-taker for the Royal Challengers Bangalore team. However, the Bangalore-based franchise did not retain him ahead of the IPL 2022 Mega Auction. It looked like the Royal Challengers Bangalore would buy him at the mega auction, but they signed Wanindu Hasaranga and let Rajasthan Royals sign Chahal.
The leg-spinner made his debut for the Rajasthan Royals tonight and picked up three wickets for the team. Playing against IPL 2016 Champions Sunrisers Hyderabad, Chahal dismissed the trio of Romario Shephard, Abdul Samad and Abhishek Sharma.
Interestingly, in a recent interview with the Times of India, Yuzvendra disclosed that he would have preferred to play for the Royal Challengers Bangalore. However, none of the RCB officials contacted him for a retention deal ahead of the mega auction. Here’s what the Indian star said:
“They didn’t ask me whether I wanted to be retained or tell me if they wanted to retain me. They just talked about the three retentions and I was told that – ‘we will go for you in the auction’. Neither was I asked about money nor did I get any offer of retention.”
