Mohammed Shami started his IPL 2022 campaign in style with a fiery spell against the Lucknow Super Giants. The right-arm pacer picked up his maiden wicket of the season on the first ball itself by dismissing opposition captain KL Rahul for a golden duck. Soon after, he rattled the stumps of Quinton de Kock.
Shubman Gill’s phenomenal catch helped Varun Aaron pick up the wicket of Evin Lewis, whereas Shami then dismissed Manish Pandey bowled out to reduce LSG to 29/4. Before the tournament began, Gujarat Titans backed Mohammed Shami by saying the following during an interview with Boria Majumdar:
“When it comes to Shami, I keep him absolutely on par with Jasprit Bumrah. Even when you see white-ball cricket, be it in T20 or ODIs, maybe Bumrah’s economy rate is 7.5 and Shami can be 8.2, 8.5, but look at his strike rate. He is a wicket-taker. When you have somebody like Shami and his experience, you cannot ask for anything better.”
Shami has lived up to the expectations with fantastic figures of 3/10 in the first three overs. His phenomenal spell helped the Gujarat Titans gain an upper hand in the contest against the Lucknow Super Giants. It seems like GT will cruise to a victory in their first match in the Indian Premier League history.
