The Deccan Chargers were the second IPL franchise who could call themselves the champions of the Indian Premier League. Playing under the captaincy of former Australian wicket-keeper batsman Adam Gilchrist, the Deccan Chargers clinched the trophy in 2009. This was the only IPL event to have taken place in the South African region.

Unfortunately, the Deccan Chargers got terminated ahead of the 2013 season. They played total five seasons from 2008 to 2012. Some big names like Kumar Sangakkara, VVS Laxman, Adam Gilchrist, Rohit Sharma, Shahid Afridi, Andrew Symonds, RP Singh, Pragyan Ojha, and others played for the Deccan Chargers.

Only five players of the IPL 2012 Deccan Chargers squad are still active in the IPL. Here’s a list of those five cricketers.

5. Daniel Christian

Australian all-rounder Daniel Christian played seven matches for the Deccan Chargers in the 2012 season. He aggregated 145 runs and picked up eight wickets for the team.

Christian even played for the Delhi Capitals and the Rising Pune Supergiant, but now, he will play for the Royal Challengers Bangalore. RCB signed him at the recently-concluded IPL 2021 Auction.

4. Star batsman of Deccan Chargers – Shikhar Dhawan

Shikhar Dhawan was a star performer for the Deccan Chargers in the 2012 IPL season. He scored 569 runs for the team in 15 innings, including five half-centuries.

Dhawan later moved to the Sunrisers Hyderabad team. Ahead of the IPL 2019 season, Dhawan was traded to the Delhi Capitals. Last year, Dhawan was the 2nd player on the Orange Cap list. He will continue playing for the same franchise in the 2021 season as well.

3. Hat-trick hero of Deccan Chargers – Amit Mishra

Amit Mishra is the only player in IPL history to have taken a hat-trick for three different franchises. He took his first hat-trick for the Delhi Capitals, next he took one for the Deccan Chargers, and in 2013, he picked his first hat-trick for the Sunrisers Hyderabad.

Mishra played 14 matches for the Deccan Chargers in the 2014 season, scalping 13 wickets at an economy rate of 8.02. Like Shikhar Dhawan, Mishra will ply his trade for the Delhi Capitals in 2021.

2. Ishant Sharma

Another player who was a part of the Deccan Chargers in 2012 but will play for the Delhi Capitals in 2021 is the Indian fast bowler Ishant Sharma. The Deccan Chargers had retained Sharma for the 2012 season.

Unfortunately, Ishant could not turn up because of his injury issues. After playing for the Punjab Kings, the Sunrisers Hyderabad, and the Rising Pune Supergiant, Ishant is now a part of the Delhi-based franchise.

1. Chris Lynn

Very few fans might know that Chris Lynn made his IPL debut for the Deccan Chargers in the 2012 season. Lynn played one game for the team where he scored six runs.

Lynn then moved to the Kolkata Knight Riders and became a star player. Currently, he is with the Mumbai Indians team. Unfortunately, Lynn did not get a single game last year. However, it is likely that he will play his first match for MI in IPL 2021 because Quinton de Kock will be busy representing the South African cricket team in the home ODI series against Pakistan.
