John Hastings also played just one game for CSK and it was not even an IPL game. It was a Champions League fixture where Hastings got his opportunity and he got one wicket giving away 29 runs in his quota of 4 overs.

The CSK captain MS Dhoni always prefers just one overseas fast bowler in the XI and out of all the overseas bowlers in the squad, he often goes for the one who can be the enforcer with the ball. Since Hastings was a line-and-length bowler and not quite an enforcer, he didn’t get too many opportunities under Dhoni.

As an all-rounder, Dwayne Bravo has always been Dhoni’s first choice and whenever he is available, Dhoni picks him in the XI because of the quality that he brings onto the table with the ball.

Thisara Perera was there in the squad to do almost the same kind of job that Bravo does for CSK and since Bravo was far more superior with the ball and would bowl during the tough phases of the innings, Dhoni kept Perera on the bench and kept playing Bravo. Perera got just one playing opportunity during his stint at CSK.

Mark Wood was signed by CSK for IPL 2018 and he played the first game of the tournament in which he proved to be very expensive and was dropped from the playing XI subsequently.

Wood would probably have played more games in the latter stages of IPL 2018, but he decided to leave the CSK camp in the middle of the tournament and returned to England to play domestic cricket. Wood, who is currently one of England’s frontline bowlers in white-ball cricket, also ended up with just one appearance for CSK.
