With two new teams likely to be introduced in IPL 2022, it will be a difficult task to hire quality cricketers. Hence, franchises must focus on the uncapped talent to improve the balance of the XI. Here are the five uncapped players KKR should target in IPL 2022 auctions.
1. N Jagadeesan
It is unlikely that KKR would retain Dinesh Karthik for IPL 2022. DK is on the wrong side of the thirties and may not be a viable option for the franchise. He is anyways not in the greatest of form. KKR could instead target his statemate – N Jagadeesan. The player has been in top form in recent years but is not getting chances at CSK. However, he looks ready for the competition and therefore, KKR must target him. At least for the next three seasons, Jagadeesan can be the wicket-keeper for the franchise.
2. Abdul Samad
Ever since Suryakumar Yadav and Yusuf Pathan left KKR, the franchise has not been able to find a batsman who can come in and strike big whenever given the task. Abdul Samad can be the player who can emulate that role. Add to this, he can also bowl leg-spin and is a good fielder in the vital regions. If SRH does not retain the player, KKR should look to sign the youngster from Jammu and Kashmir. He can be a crucial member of the squad for a long time.
3. Chetan Sakariya
It has been a while since KKR has had a decent left-arm pacer in the unit. In the last few seasons, it is surprising that the franchise has not invested in one. But, for the subsequent editions, they must have a left-arm fast-bowler in the squad. Chetan Sakariya can be a decent inclusion in this regard. He is young, has plenty of variations and has the attitude to learn and grow. Hence, KKR should target the youngster at the IPL 2022 mega auction.
4. Ravi Bishnoi
Ravi Bishnoi is one of the uncapped players KKR should target for IPL 2022. However, it may not be possible if Punjab Kings decide to retain the young leggie. If they do not, Bishnoi should be targeted by KKR. With Varun CV falling in the mystery spinner category, a traditional leg spinner will be needed in the franchise. Considering the potential in him, KKR should look to sign Bishnoi. He would be a terrific addition to the squad.
5. K Gowtham
K Gowtham did not play a single game for CSK in IPL 2021 before the tournament got suspended. This is despite the franchise spending a lot of money on him. Nevertheless, Gowtham is a quality T20 cricketer and KKR should look to target him. At No.7, he would be the perfect inclusion for the franchise. Like how KKR utilized Harbhajan Singh at the start of IPL 2021, Gowtham can be used from the next season. In fact, he would be more useful due to his exceptional power-hitting skills.
