IPL is the toughest T20 league on the planet earth. The Indian Premier League was launched in the year 2008 with the aim of providing young cricketers with an opportunity to compete with the best in the world at an early stage of their careers.
Over the last 16 years, many youngsters have catapulted their careers to a whole new level by performing well in the Indian Premier League. Even the franchises have not shied away from trying out youngsters in this league. Here’s a list of the six such cricketers who played in the league before celebrating their 18th birthday.
1. Kwena Maphaka became youngest player to take a wicket for MI in IPL
South Africa’s U19 star Kwena Maphaka replaced Dilshan Madushanka in the Mumbai Indians squad recently. He had a forgettable debut against SRH but bounced back by taking a wicket at the age of 17 against RR.
2. Mujeeb ur Rahman is the youngest player to take a wicket in IPL
Afghanistan’s spinner Mujeeb ur Rahman was 17 years and 11 days old when he bagged his maiden wicket in the league. He was a part of PBKS in the 2018 season.
3. Prayas Ray Barman is youngest player in IPL history
RCB stunned everyone when they handed 16-year-old Prayas Ray Barman his debut cap in 2019. He went for a lot of runs against SRH and never played in the league again.
4. Riyan Parag
Riyan Parag is the Orange Cap holder in the ongoing season of the league. Parag made his debut at the age of 17 years and 152 days for RR in 2019.
5. Sarfaraz Khan
Sarfaraz Khan represented India in a Test series against England earlier this year. Nine years ago, he made his debut for RCB at the age of 17 years and 177 days.
6. Pradeep Sangwan
Former India U19 World Cup winner Pradeep Sangwan made his debut for Delhi in the 2008 season. The left-arm pacer was 17 years and 179 days old at that time.
