Ravi Shastri was the head coach of the Indian cricket team when they won two out of the first four matches of the ICC World Test Championship series against the England cricket team. It was under Shastri’s guidance that the Indian team won two back-to-back Test series on Australian soil and took a 2-1 lead on English pitches.
Even though Ravi Shastri could never win an ICC trophy as the head coach, his motivational speeches in the dressing room and his ability to bring the best out of the bowlers in the fourth innings helped India win some crucial Test matches.
Under new coach Rahul Dravid, India are yet to win an overseas ICC World Test Championship series. Earlier this year, India lost to South Africa by 1-2 despite taking a 1-0 lead in the three-match series. Now, in England, India had a golden chance of winning the series by 3-1. However, despite setting a 378-run target, the visitors lost by seven wickets.
Jonny Bairstow won the Man of the Match award for his twin centuries in the match at Edgbaston. Here’s what he said after winning the prize:
“It is great and the last month has bene fantastic and Test cricket for all the lads. Taking all the simple things back, sticking to the basics and the last few months have been fantastic. Fortunate to play cricket and the crowds have been fantastic as well. I am enjoying and play the way I do.”
Fans on Twitter feel India missed Ravi Shastri as coach and Virat Kohli as captain in this match
Indian fans on social media expressed their feelings after the morale-shattering seven-wicket loss and said that the team missed captain Virat Kohli and head coach Ravi Shastri. Here are some of the top tweets:
We might have complained about Ravi Shastri for the lack of ICC trophies under him. But under him, sure did we have belief in the bowlers to bowl out teams in 4th innings in a test match. Something that's slowly eroding under Rahul Dravid. SA series was first, and now Eng test https://t.co/TbgATZCIsI

There was something about ravi shastri.. either it will turn like masterstroke, which will be out of box or look blunt that no one did.. there's no in-betweens.. Rahul Dravid is the in-between!

Rahul Dravid was given a lot of credit for India’s epic win in Australia (esp after Gabba). Then coach Ravi Shastri was ignored.

Now, current head coach Rahul Dravid has lost 3 out of 4 overseas Tests. Including a series in SA where India started favourites. #EngvInd
