The 63rd match of the 2022 edition of the Indian Premier League is in the history books, with the Rajasthan Royals jumping to the second position of the points table. Riyan Parag took the catch of Marcus Stoinis in the last over and helped the Jaipur-based franchise register another win in the season. However, what Parag did after taking the catch has caught everyone’s attention on social media.
Speaking about the match between the Lucknow Super Giants and the Rajasthan Royals first, RR skipper Sanju Samson won the toss and elected to bat first. The Royals finished with 178/6 on the board despite losing Jos Buttler’s wicket cheaply. Yashasvi Jaiswal played a fine knock of 41 runs for the Rajasthan Royals.
Chasing 179 to book a spot in the Qualifier 1 match, Lucknow Super Giants lost wickets at regular intervals and finished with 154/8 in their 20 overs. Deepak Hooda scored another fifty, but his efforts went in vain as LSG suffered their second consecutive defeat while chasing in IPL 2022.
Speaking with the host broadcasters after the game, LSG captain KL Rahul said:
“I think it was a gettable target. It was a good pitch, a bit in there with the new ball. We bowled pretty well to restrict them and were backing ourselves to get that target. Unfortunately we couldn’t execute our plans. We haven’t been able to collectively perform as a batting unit in the last few games.”
Fans react as Riyan Parag celebrates in a different manner after taking the catch of Marcus Stoinis
In the 19th over of the LSG innings, Riyan Parag took a fantastic catch which looked clean on the first sight, but the third umpire spotted that the catch was not clean and hit the grass, which is why Stoinis was ruled safe. On the second ball of the final over, Parag took a clean catch and to celebrate it, he teased the turf.
Fans had mixed reactions to that celebration, and here are some of the Twitter reactions:

Absolutely unnecessary gesture from Riyan Parag there. Not that the previous decision was an unfair one, it was the ball being clearly grounded #riyanparag

Well said Matty Hayden. It’s not easy to like Riyan Parag. This attitude will hugely limit his growth #RRvsLSG #IPL2022

Commentators honestly need to stop schooling Riyan Parag. There was nothing remotely wrong with that celebration. Heck, it wasn’t even a celebration.

Riyan Parag was unfairly criticised before but now he’s getting annoying. Unnecessary acting there. Maybe commentators were right to criticise him

What was that from Riyan Parag?

Wasn’t required at all.
This Is Why I Don’t Like This Boy Riyan Parag. Yes You Have Taken A Catch, But Criticising Umpires For Their Decision Is Bizarre. As A Batsman You Have Not Done Anything, But Showing Off Always.
