Speaking about the match between the Sunrisers Hyderabad and the Kolkata Knight Riders, KKR captain Shreyas Iyer won the toss and decided to bat first at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune. KKR lost the wicket of Venkatesh Iyer early, but the duo of Ajinkya Rahane and Nitish Rana built a good partnership of 48 runs for the second wicket.

Express fast bowler Umran Malik broke the second-wicket partnership by dismissing Rana when he was on 26 runs. Soon after, Rahane joined him in the dressing room as Malik dismissed him caught out as well. Captain Shreyas Iyer followed them to the pavilion as well. Umran dismissed Iyer for the second time in this season.
