The 2022 County Championship is underway right now, where England Test cricket team’s new captain Ben Stokes has announced his arrival in style. Stokes played a fantastic knock of 161 runs for Durham in their ongoing match against Worcestershire. Stokes came out to bat at number six when the team’s score was 360/4.
He joined hands with David Bedingham and had a fifth-wicket partnership of 220 runs, where Stokes aggregated 161 runs off just 88 balls. There was an over bowled by left-arm spinner Josh Baker, where Stokes smacked five consecutive sixes and ended it with a four to score 34 runs off those six deliveries.
Ben batted at an exhilarating strike rate of 182.57. His 88-ball innings comprised eight fours and 17 sixes. Ahead of this game, Stokes had an interaction with Sky Sports, where he said:
“The people who write that stuff are taking that from other people who have done the role. I’ve had to live with the tag of Andrew Flintoff and Sir Ian Botham since I was 18. But I’ve always maintained that I am never trying to be Flintoff or Botham. I’m Ben Stokes.”
