However, the England team has not won ‘The Ashes‘ under Root’s captaincy with failure in 2018-19 and at home in 2019. This promoted Sky Sports Cricket to tweet questioning the fans, “Does Joe Root need to win an Ashes series to be classed as one of the England’s ‘great’ Test captains ?”

England all-rounder Ben Stokes took good care of that question as he retweeted saying, “Already is the greatest…..most wins as a English Test Captain…end of.”

Root Career in Cricket

Root started off his career as a opening batsman in domestic circuit, but ever since making England debut, he has always featured as a middle order batsman. Root made his debut domestic cricket debut in the year 2009 playing for Yorkshire.

He made his England debut in the year 2012 against India in the Test series in which he scored 93 runs in total in both innings. Ever since that, Root has been the mainstay of that English middle order. He has played 108 Test matches as of 3rd Test against India in 2021 and has scored 9221 runs. The 30 year old have still got a lot of cricket left in him and expect him to brake more records.
