The 39th match of the 2022 edition of the Indian Premier League is in the history books, with the Royal Challengers Bangalore losing to the Rajasthan Royals. RR avenged their previous loss against RCB with a 29-run win at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune. During the game, there was a bizarre run-out where Yuzvendra Chahal managed to dismiss Dinesh Karthik despite a fumble.
Royal Challengers Bangalore captain Faf du Plessis won the toss and decided to bowl first. The decision went in his team’s favor initially as RCB dismissed the opposition team’s top-order batters early. However, a half-century from Riyan Parag ensured that the Rajasthan Royals ended with 144 runs on the board.
Chasing 145 to win the match, RCB failed to get going with the willow. The new opening pair of Virat Kohli and Faf du Plessis could not impress much, while all-rounder Glenn Maxwell got out for a golden duck. The pressure was on Dinesh Karthik once again to deliver the goods.
While Karthik had done the job for RCB in their last match against RR, he unluckily got run-out in the match that happened last night. Karthik and Shahbaz Ahmed had a match-winning partnership for the Royal Challengers Bangalore against the Rajasthan Royals in their first meeting of IPL 2022.
Earlier tonight in Pune, they had a brief confusion during Yuzvendra Chahal’s over. At one moment, both batters were in the middle of the pitch. Since the ball went straight to the fielder and he threw it at the non-striker’s end, Karthik gave up his hopes.

Karthik could have made it back to the crease had he not stopped running fast because Yuzvendra Chahal fumbled a bit. It should not have been an easy run-out, but the matter went to third umpire. Luckily for RR, Karthik was ruled out.
