Chennai Super Kings’ (CSK) CEO Kasi Viswanathan has asserted that the team will try their level best being back their core team for IPL 2022, especially South African cricketer Faf du Plessis.
It always a tough ask to a champion team to completely dismantle their winning team. But, Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 champions Chennai Super Kings had to do so.
The BCCI has announced a Mega Auction before the IPL 2022 season begins, with 2 new teams coming in. All the 8 existing teams were told to retain a maximum of 4 players before the auction.
Chennai Super Kings retained the services of star all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja, legendary captain MS Dhoni, England all-rounder Moeen Ali and Indian young gun Ruturaj Gaikwad. Meaning that star players like Faf du Plessis, Dwayne Bravo, Deepak Chahar, Shardul Thakur among many were released.
CSK CEO Kasi Vishwanathan hopeful of getting Faf du Plessis back
In a video posted on CSK’s official handles, team CEO Kasi Viswanathan stated that they are hopeful of getting their core back together again. That also includes the South African star batsman Faf du Plessis, who was the team’s and IPL 2021’s 2nd highest run scorer, behind teammate Ruturaj Gaikwad, and also got Man of the Match for his performance in the Final against KKR.
Kasi Viswanathan stated that they are looking forward to bring them back, especially Faf du Plessis, who guided the team to 2 IPL final, but also confirmed that it is hard and is not on their hand.
“We look forward to getting them back. For example, Faf has been a team man who has taken us to the finals of two important seasons. It will be our endeavor to go and try for him. But it’s not in our hands,” said the CSK team CEO.
CSK’s fairytale comeback after IPL 2020
Chennai Super Kings had a disastrous IPL 2020, as they were the first team to be knocked out for the race to playoffs. People called the team a Dads Army, due to the average age of the team.
But they bounced back strong, as the MS Dhoni led side finished 2nd in the league table, but defeated Delhi Capitals and Kolkata Knight Riders in the Qualifier 1 and in the final respectively. Ruturaj Gaikwad won the Orange Cap for the team and Faf du Plessis finished as the 2nd highest run getter, as he scored 2 runs less than Gaikwad.
