Dinesh Karthik has been one of the most loved cricketers of 2022. The wicket-keeper batter revived his international career after scoring runs for the Royal Challengers Bangalore in the 2022 edition of the Indian Premier League. He took up the role of the finisher and played it to perfection, helping RCB finish in the Top 4 of the points table.

Soon after, the selectors recalled him to the Indian squad for the T20I series against the South African cricket team. During that five-match series, Karthik played the finisher’s role, and in one of the games, he registered his maiden T20I fifty. Thanks to his good performance against the South African cricket team, Karthik retained his place in the team for the series against the Ireland cricket team.

Karthik could not do much in the first T20I of the two-match series. Only formalities remained when he came out to bat in the run-chase. He remained unbeaten on five runs off four balls. In the second T20I, he came on strike when eight balls were left.

While most members of the cricket universe expected Dinesh Karthik to go for a big shot in the penultimate over, the wicket-keeper batter tried to place the ball towards the thirdman region. The ball got the outside edge off his bat as Craig Young took one of the biggest wickets of his career.

The ball nicked Karthik’s bat and went to the wicket-keeper Lorcan Tucker. While the Irishmen were excited after the catch was taken, the on-field umpire was not so sure about the edge. He did not raise his finger. Karthik then showed the Spirit of Cricket and walked back to the dressing room.
