Rishabh Pant has earned everyone’s attention with his batting and wicket-keeping over the last few years. However, last night in the IPL match between the Delhi Capitals and the Rajasthan Royals, he became the talk of the town after he called his players back to the dressing room because the on-field umpires did not give a waist-high full-toss a no-ball and allowed it as a legit delivery.
It was the final over of the match between the Rajasthan Royals and the Delhi Capitals, where the Delhi-based franchise needed 36 runs off the last over. It seemed improbable, but Rovman Powell made it look possible with three sixes in the first three balls.
The third ball was a waist-high full-toss, one that could have been called a no-ball, but the umpires didn’t call it a no-ball. Had it been a no-ball, the equation would have come down to 17 runs off 4 balls with a free-hit to Powell. However, Obed McCoy was lucky enough to escape without the delivery being called a no-ball.
Here’s what DC captain Rishabh Pant said after the match ended:
“I think they were bowling well throughout the game but in the end Powell gave us a chance, I thought that no-ball could have been precious for us but it is not in my control. Yes, disappointed but can’t do much about it. Everyone was frustrated (in the dugout) that it was not even close.”
Twitterati react as Rishabh Pant called his players back to the dugout
After the umpires did not call it a no-ball, Pant was furious and decided to call his players back, halting the match for a while. Here’s how fans on Twitter reacted to it:
Last Over Controversy, seemed like gully cricket, Pant asking the batters to come back, and then sending in a team management guy to speak to the umpires. #RRvsDC #RishabhPant pic.twitter.com/pmXngizUUn

Powell starting the last over with 3 sixes, Praveen Amre running out on the field, Rishabh Pant calling his batsman back, umpire not checking that no ball thing … Excellent entertainment, this is WWE level stuff, I was waiting for Vince McMahon to run out on the field too!

Shocking night. The umpiring has been worse than even gully-mohalla standard but Rishabh Pant had no business to suggest his batsmen to stage a walkout #DCvRR
