The Gujarat Titans qualified for the IPL 2022 playoffs with a win against the Lucknow Super Giants earlier tonight at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune. GT won the toss and elected to bat first. Shubman Gill’s 63-run knock helped Gujarat finish with 144/4 on the board. Interestingly, Avesh Khan won the award for the Maximum Sixes smashed in the match.
The pitch seemed difficult for batting in Pune. Quinton de Kock and David Miller hit one six each in the match. Avesh Khan was the only batter to smack more than one maximum. He came out to bat at number 11 and took Gujarat Titans’ vice-captain Rashid Khan to the cleaners.
Fans should note that when Avesh came out to bat, Rashid was on a hat-trick. But the Lucknow Super Giants bowler showed no fear at all and went hard at the leg-spinner. His two big hits took LSG’s score from 70/9 to 82/9. The Gujarat Titans leggie had the last laugh in his battle against Avesh as he dismissed him caught behind and sealed the deal for his team.
Speaking with the host broadcasters after qualifying for the IPL 2022 playoffs, Gujarat Titans vice-captain Khan said:
“Those couple of games which did not go well was all about my line and length. That was something I was missing in those games. The pace I bowl and action I have, I cannot afford to lose my line and length, it was about focusing on hitting the right area.”
