It seems like two teams out of Rajasthan Royals, Royal Challengers Bangalore and Delhi Capitals will join the two new franchises in the playoffs soon. Like the previous seasons, there will be a playoff round in IPL instead of a semifinal format. The top two teams on the points table will battle against each other in the Qualifier 1 match, with the winner progressing to the final.

The third and the fourth placed franchises will clash in the Eliminator match, with the winner progressing to the Qualifier 2 match. The loser of the Qualifier 1 match will take on the winner of the Eliminator in the Qualifier 2, while the loser of the Eliminator match will be eliminated from the competition.
