Chennai Super Kings will head into IPL 2022 as defending champions, and they will find it extremely difficult to retain only four players from their current champion squad. As per reports, the five names in contention to be retained by the Chennai Super Kings are captain MS Dhoni, opener Ruturaj Gaikwad, all-rounders Ravindra Jadeja, Moeen Ali and Sam Curran. The first three names are reportedly confirmed, while the Chennai Super Kings are yet to finalize one between Ali and Curran.

Interestingly, former New Zealand fast bowler Simon Doull recently made a bold prediction on Star Sports. While discussing the Chennai Super Kings’ retentions, Doull said that MS Dhoni may not full IPL 2022 season and retire after playing his last game in Chennai. As per Doull, Faf du Plessis will take over captaincy of the Chennai Super Kings team after Dhoni’s retirement.

“To bring MS beside to play his final game and Faf du Plessis will take over the captaincy in IPL in April-May next year. So that’s my thinking and I don’t think MS will play the full season, I think Faf will take over at some stage through the season. But I think there will be a home game, where they announce it will be his last game and Faf will take over the captaincy after that,” said Simon Doull.
