Former India U-19 captain Priyam Garg received a chance to open the innings with Abhishek Sharma today, and both the youngsters gave a decent start to the SunRisers Hyderabad innings. While Abhishek scored only nine runs, Garg made an impact with a 26-ball 42. Speaking with the host broadcasters after the first innings, Garg said:

“I enjoyed very much. (On opening experience) I was told by the franchise that I would open. I was practicing to bat as an opener so I was planning that way only. (On the pitch) The new ball was coming off slow. As the ball got older, the ball came onto the bat well. It is a good score.”

His innings had a slightly controversial ending as Pooran played an aggressive shot off Riley Meredith’s bowling in the 17th over. The ball went straight to the fielder in the deep Mayank Markande.
