The Indian Premier League (IPL) is the biggest T20 cricket league in the World and as well as the richest league. Players earn a lot of money when they are picked by an IPL team during the IPL Auction. But the latest report suggests that IPL Mega Auction might be scrapped.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), that governs the IPL, holds a player auction every year, where teams get an opportunity to further strengthen their weaklinks.

However, there comes a time, about in between 5 years gap, that BCCI holds a Mega Auction, where all the teams are mandatory to release all the players, except for about 3 to 4 players, and that breaks the team combination built throughout the couple of years.

And as a reason of which, a report on the Times of India (TOI) states that there is a plan to scrap the Mega Auction and the IPL 2022 Mega Auction will be the last one, however, the mini Auctions will be continued to be held each and every year.

A source stated to TOI that most of the stakeholders and franchises are happy that the IPL 2022 Mega Auction be the last mega auction. The source added the reason that every franchises thinks that the trend has clearly gone past its sell-by date.

And with this IPL 2022 Mega Auction being the last, it will put pressure on the franchises to pick their squad carefully, looking at building a team for the future.

As for the IPL 2022 Mega Auction is concerned, the eight existing franchises have been given a deadline of November 30 to submit the list of 4 retained players. Other than that, every other players, who were not retained, will be part of the Mega Auction, which is likely to be held in January 2022.
