The 37th match of the 2022 edition of the Indian Premier League is underway at the moment, with the Lucknow Super Giants taking on five-time champions Mumbai Indians. For the first time in IPL 2022, MI are playing a match at the Wankhede Stadium. While MI’s bowling attack did a decent job, they could not stop KL Rahul from scoring his second hundred in IPL 2022.
The Mumbai Indians won the toss and opted to field first. MI kept taking wickets at regular intervals, but Rahul held one end and scored 103 runs for LSG to guide them to a score of 168 runs in 20 overs. Rahul was the only LSG batter to score more than 25 runs in the first innings.
His strike rate was 166, while he smashed 12 fours and four sixes in his entertaining knock. Fans should note that the Lucknow Super Giants and the Mumbai Indians have battled once before in IPL 2022. In that match also, Rahul scored a hundred and helped the Super Giants win the contest.
Kieron Pollard was the best bowler for MI. He picked up two wickets, conceding only eight runs in his brief spell of two overs. Speaking with host broadcasters after the first innings, Pollard said:
“Haven’t bowled in the last couple of games. We did well to restrict them to 168. Hopefully we can get that. It was holding a bit in the first ten (overs) maybe, but it was coming on better in the back ten. We played plenty of cricket here, we should look to use the dimensions of the ground.”
