David Warner played one of the best knocks by a Delhi Capitals batter in IPL 2022 as he destroyed the Sunrisers Hyderabad bowlers at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai. Opening the innings for DC, Warner played aggressively and scored runs for his team.
DC got off to a slow start as they lost the wicket of Mandeep Singh in the first over. SRH pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar bowled a wicket maiden to start the innings. David Warner, however, was not troubled much by the SRH bowling as he played his natural game and guided his team to a big score.
He finished with 92 runs on the board off 58 balls, hitting 12 fours and three sixes. He was eight runs shy of completing his maiden IPL 2022 hundred, but Rovman Powell did not give him the strike in the last over. Speaking with the host broadcasters after the first innings, Powell said:
“I was trying to (hit sixes instead of fours in the last over) but because I faced so many balls I got winded towards the end. I asked him if he wanted a single to get a hundred but he told me this isn’t how we play cricket and I should try to smack it as far as I can and as hard as I can and I did it.”
Powell scored 19 runs off the last six deliveries bowled by Umran Malik. Delhi Capitals ended with 207/3 in their 20 overs. Powell supported Warner to perfection with an unbeaten fifty.
