Shaun Pollock was the fourth foreign player present in the playing XI of Mumbai Indians. Pollock was the most economical bowler of the Mumbai Indians team, giving away 17 runs in 4 overs. Pollock also contributed his part in the batting department as he scored 28 runs from just 12 deliveries, an innings which included 3 fours and 2 sixes. Pollock is now a commentator in the South African sports broadcast channel.

Since Sachin Tendulkar was not available to play for Mumbai Indians, Harbhajan Singh got the chance to lead the team. He could not lead the team to a win in the first game, but he was the highest wicket-taker for his team. Harbhajan played for Mumbai Indians till 2017. He switched to Chennai in 2018 and will play for CSK in IPL 2020.

Thana-based bowling all-rounder Musavir Khote got a golden chance to play for Mumbai Indians in IPL 2008. He is a medium pacer and a pinch hitter who batted in the lower middle order. Although he was included in the Mumbai Indians playing XI, Khote did not bat and ball in the match. He has not played a domestic match since 2011.

Former Indian pace bowler Ashish Nehra played for multiple IPL teams in his career and the first one was Mumbai Indians. The left-arm fast bowler was very expensive in that match as he conceded 45 runs in his 4-overs spell. Although Nehra dismissed Virat Kohli in the match, he could not lead his team to a victory. Nehra has retired from cricket and has been trying his hand in coaching and commentary.

The last player to be a part of the Mumbai Indians’ first-ever playing XI was the local fast bowler Dhawal Kulkarni. The right-arm quick bowled the last over of the match, where RCB managed to sneak away with the victory.

Kulkarni later played for Rajasthan Royals and Gujarat Lions in his career. However, he has now come back to the Mumbai Indians team.
