The 31st match of the 2022 edition of the Indian Premier League is in the history books, with the Royal Challengers Bangalore prevailing over the Lucknow Super Giants. Captain Faf du Plessis led the Bangalore-based franchise from the front, scoring 96 runs. LSG were close to the target, and when Marcus Stoinis was in the middle, it seemed like he would win it for his franchise.

However, Marcus Stoinis could not keep his cool and lost his wicket in the penultimate over of the match. Josh Hazlewood bowled the first over of the 19th over wide outside off. The ball was outside the tramline, but since Stoinis shuffled a bit as well, the umpire felt that the ball was hittable and did not signal a wide.

On the next ball, Stoinis shuffled again and connected with the ball. However, the ball hit his stumps, forcing him to return to the dressing room before the 20th over. Since he lost his wicket at a crucial moment and did not get a wide when he should have, Stoinis was visibly upset with the umpire.

He lost his cool and said a few words before returning to the dressing room. Josh Hazlewood completed his four-wicket haul with that scalp. Eventually, the Lucknow Super Giants ended with 163/8 in 20 overs and suffered a defeat by 18 runs. Speaking about that incident after the match, Hazlewood was quoted as saying as follows:

“I tried to turn around and give it back to Marcus as quickly as I could but I got a bit lucky with that one. I’m really enjoying it particularly at the start and at this ground. Wankhede’s got some good bounce but here at DY, it’s unbelievable.”
