The sixth match of the 2022 edition of the Indian Premier League is in the history books now. Royal Challengers Bangalore recorded their maiden win in IPL 2022 by defeating two-time champions Kolkata Knight Riders at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai. Former KKR captain Dinesh Karthik scored the winning runs for the RCB franchise.
Speaking about the match first, the Royal Challengers Bangalore won the toss and invited the Kolkata Knight Riders to bat first. The trio of Akash Deep, Wanindu Hasaranga and Harshal Patel wreaked havoc in Navi Mumbai as their magnificent bowling performances helped RCB bowl KKR out for just 128 runs.
Just three nights ago, the Royal Challengers Bangalore scored 205 runs against the Punjab Kings at this venue. So fans expected an easy run-chase. However, the pitch was different this time and RCB lost the wickets of Faf du Plessis, Anuj Rawat and Virat Kohli.
Contributions from David Willey, Sherfane Rutherford, Shahbaz Ahmed, Karthik and Harshal Patel helped RCB win the game with four balls to spare. Commenting after the match, Ahmed, who scored a 20-ball 27, said:
“Was just looking to bat with some positive intent. Wanted to keep the scoring flowing and also look to take the game deep and take it from there. Could have finished the match but these are the kind of things you learn from.”
