Speaking of the first innings, the Sri Lankan cricket team lost wickets at regular intervals. They could not build a big partnership. Wicket-keeper batter Niroshan Dickwella scored a fifty and helped the islanders finish with 212 runs on the board.

Angelo Mathews supported him with a 71-ball 39. Australian spinners enjoyed bowling in Galle earlier today. Nathan Lyon picked up a five-wicket haul, while Mitchell Swepson dismissed three Sri Lankan batters. In reply, the Australian cricket team ended Day 1 at 98/3.

Opening batter Usman Khawaja scored 47 runs. He remained not out till the end of the day’s play, but during the first day’s action, he was involved in a terrible mix-up with his teammate Steve Smith. On the first ball of the 20th over, Smith looked for a flick but failed to connect it. The fielding team appealed for an LBW as the ball traveled towards the point region.

Usman Khawaja was interested in a run, but there was some confusion. Steve Smith came running halfway down the track only for Khawaja to turn back. Smith had to return to the dressing room after scoring only six runs off 11 balls.
