The second match of the ICC World Test Championship series between the New Zealand cricket team and the England cricket team started earlier today in Nottingham. During the first day of the match, the Blackcaps won the hearts of the cricket universe with a kind gesture.

Daryl Mitchell, who is an all-rounder in the New Zealand playing XI, smashed two sixes on the first day of the game. The first six which he smacked was off Jack Leach’s bowling during the 56th over of the innings. On the third ball of that over, Mitchell stepped out of his crease and whacked the ball straight to the fifth row into the stands.

A female fan who was enjoying the live action in Nottingham with a pint dropped her glass after the ball came towards her. To repay for that loss, the New Zealand cricket team gifted her a fresh pint. England’s Barmy Army shared the following tweet to inform the fans about the Kiwis’ gesture.

“Susan – the lady earlier who Daryl Mitchell’s pint hit – has been given a replacement by the Kiwi team,” wrote The Barmy Army.

Putting on 300 on a pitch like that was a very good effort: Devon Conway feels Daryl Mitchell and rest of New Zealand batters did a fantastic job on Day 1

The New Zealand cricket team scored 318/4 on the opening day of the match. Speaking with the host broadcasters at the end of Day 1, the team’s star player Devon Conway reflected on their performance and said:

“Putting on 300 on a pitch like that was a very good effort. It didn’t do heaps, and played a lot better than it looked. A bit of swing but a good surface. A bit of bounce for the bowlers. I was excited to bat first, just to get in there.”
