Rahul Tewatia stunned the cricket universe with his incredible six-smashing abilities during the match between the Gujarat Titans and the Punjab Kings at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai. PBKS batted first and scored 189 runs in their 20 overs. In reply, GT scored 190/4 in 20 overs and won the match by six wickets.
Shubman Gill was adjudged the Man of the Match for his stellar knock of 96 runs. He fell four runs short of his well-deserved century as he hit a wide full toss from Kagiso Rabada straight to Mayank Agarwal in the 19th over. Soon after, skipper Hardik Pandya returned to the dressing room as well. It looked like Punjab Kings would deny Gujarat Titans a victory.
The equation came down to 13 runs off three balls. David Miller could not connect properly, but the bowler Odean Smith attempted a direct hit for a run-out. It did not hit the stumps and instead traveled to the fielder in the deep. The batters crossed over.
Rahul Tewatia, who had faced only one ball before that, did the unimaginable and smashed two sixes off the last two balls to guide Gujarat Titans home. Speaking at the post-match presentation, captain Hardik Pandya said:
“The kind of ups and downs happen, I have become neutral to it. I was upset, I was happy but I’m normal now. To be honest, hats off to him (Tewatia). It’s not always easy to go out there and hit them. With the world watching and the pressure, hats off to him.”
