Umran Malik played his career’s third T20I match for the Indian cricket team today against the England cricket team at Trent Bridge in Nottingham. Both Avesh Khan and Malik received a place in the playing XI as captain Rohit Sharma and the team management decided to give some rest to ace fast bowlers Jasprit Bumrah and Bhuvneshwar Kumar.
Malik made his T20I debut against the Ireland cricket team last month and returned with mixed results. He bowled an expensive over in the first game but in the next match, he helped the Indian cricket team win the match by bowling an impressive last over.
At Trent Bridge against the England cricket team, Malik could not impress much. He managed to take the wicket of Jason Roy, but the right-arm fast bowler ended up conceding 56 runs in his spell of four overs. As per CricViz, it is the third most expensive spell by an Indian in T20I cricket history.
Before this match, Indian cricket team captain Rohit Sharma said the following about Malik:
“He is very much in our plans. We are trying to give him an understanding as to what the team requires from him as well. Yes, there will be times when we want to try out a few guys and Umran is definitely one of those guys. Keeping one eye on the World Cup, we want to see what he has to offer for us.”
Fans on Twitter think Umran Malik is not ready for international cricket yet after his disappointing show against England
Cricket fans on Twitter had high hopes from Malik when he received a place in the Indian cricket team’s playing XI for the third T20I against the England cricket team. However, he let his fans down. Here are some of the top Twitter reactions to his spell of 1/56 against the England cricket team at Trent Bridge:

Even in the IPL, he did well in only 4 odd games.
Not only control, he lacks game-sense.
Quite understandable, since he hasn't played much first class cricket yet.
Arshdeep looks a much better prospect.@chetans1987#ENGvIND

I thought Umran Malik was supposed to be ‘the fastest bowler in the world’ 🤷♂️🤷♂️ about 20 faster bowlers in Pakistan alone🙄 #ENGvIND

Umran Malik needs to go back into the domestic setup, he's too raw. Has just 3 FC matches, 1 List A and handful of IPL matches under his belt. 56 off his four overs today too. As Shaheen pointed out, you need skills along with pace to survive. He shouldn't be pushed. #ENGvIND

Umran Malik ends with 4-0-56-1, the third most expensive figures ever for an Indian bowler in T20I cricket. #ENGvIND

I would take Umran over anyone in the squad even if he gives away 144 runs in his spell

Umran really shouldn't be put in a situation right now where he is bowling powerplay overs. Will dent his confidence. Should be playing games where he can let rip in the middle overs with protection.#ENGvIND
