The Knight Riders batted first and scored 84 runs in their innings. Captain Sunil Narine opened the innings but got out for a duck. New Zealand’s wicket-keeper batter Tim Seifert did a great job for the Knight Riders as he scored 37 runs off just 25 balls, smashing one four and three sixes. Andre Russell backed him up with a 13-ball 22.

In reply, the St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots got off to an excellent start with the opening pair of Evin Lewis and Andre Fletcher adding 53 runs for the first wicket. However, after the opening partnership was broken, the Patriots lost two more wickets in quick succession. Both Dewald Brevis and Sherfane Rutherford lost their wickets in single digits.

Andre Fletcher held one end, and then it was the Universe Boss Chris Gayle who came in and smashed the winning runs for the team. Gayle remained not out on 15 runs off 16 balls as the Patriots were home in the final over.

So, it was Gayle’s own team that emerged victorious, with the left-handed batter smashing the winning runs himself. Sharing the unique record created by Gayle, a popular statistician wrote on Twitter:

“Hitting the winning runs to lift the trophy named after you. This is proper bossing by the Universe Boss.”
