Obed McCoy made his IPL debut in the 30th match of the 2022 edition of the Indian Premier League and emerged as a hero for the Rajasthan Royals. Playing against the Kolkata Knight Riders, McCoy received the big task of defending 11 runs in the last over. Although he was playing his first-ever IPL match, McCoy did not show any signs of pressure.

He played his natural game and backed his basics. Kolkata Knight Riders only had two wickets in hand in the 20th over, and a stupendous bowling performance from McCoy ensured that the Rajasthan Royals bowled their opponents out with two balls remaining in the match.

McCoy started the over with a slower delivery on full length. KKR batter Sheldon Jackson smacked it up in the air but it landed safely and allowed KKR to score two runs. The equation was down to 9 off 5 when Jackson handed a catch to Prasidh Krishna off a slower delivery bowled by McCoy.

On the fourth ball of the over, McCoy rattled the stumps of the dangerous Umesh Yadav to seal the deal for the Rajasthan Royals. Talking with the host broadcasters after the match, McCoy was quoted as saying as follows by Sportskeeda:

“I feel good. This is my first game since last year and my injury so I had to come and perform as best as I could. I’ve worked really hard in these last few months. It was just about getting over the nerves and working hard. I know my skills – I normally try to back them.”

The Pushpa movie and its celebration has become popular in cricket this year. McCoy followed that trend as he did the signature pose of “Me Jhukega Nai” (I won’t bow down) after taking the first wicket of his IPL career. Here’s how Twitter reacted to it:
