Wade opened the innings with Shubman Gill for the Gujarat Titans. The left-handed batter had struggled to get going in the previous matches, and his ordinary show continued in IPL 2022 as he was dismissed by Umran Malik after a 19-ball 19. Malik’s sheer pace beat Wade as the Australian wicket-keeper batter was trapped in front of his stumps.

Despite losing Wade in the eighth over, Gujarat Titans managed to post a 162-run total on the board. Captain Hardik Pandya led from the front with a half-century. Abhinav Manohar supported him with a 21-ball 35. Here’s what he told the host broadcasters after the first innings:

“The stars were in the right place. Someone up there was looking up for me. I got three chances but I won’t get them every day. Should have made it count and taken it till the last over. We looked to play till the 17th over and then take it from there.”
