The 22nd match of the 2022 edition of the Indian Premier League is currently underway at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai. The Royal Challengers Bangalore are locking horns with the Chennai Super Kings for the first time this season. RCB captain Faf du Plessis won the toss and asked his former team to have a bat first. Shivam Dube and Robin Uthappa destroyed the Royal Challengers Bangalore bowling attack.
CSK got off to a slow start as they struggled to score runs at a quick rate in the initial phase of their innings. At one stage, they were 36/2 after 6.4 overs. It seemed like the Chennai Super Kings would find it tough to score even 150 runs. However, the duo of Shivam Dube and Robin Uthappa stitched up a magnificent 165-run partnership to blow away the RCB bowling attack.
Dube remained not out on 95 runs off 46 balls, smacking five fours and eight sixes, while Uthappa scored 88 runs off 50 deliveries. Both batters dealt majorly in sixes as the Royal Challengers Bangalore seemed to have no answers for them. Even the luck favored the CSK batters as Uthappa was out off a no-ball.
Speaking to the host broadcasters after the first innings, Dube said:
“Just keeping it simple. Nothing special. Just watching the ball. I’m used to this ground, so I was just trying to be disciplined in my batting. (On what MSD said to him before the final ball) Just keep calm and keep watching the ball. Nothing else. (On dew) It’s still pretty dry today. That’s good for us.”
