Glenn Maxwell survived a fantastic googly delivery from Rashid Khan during the 67th match of the 2022 edition of the Indian Premier League. Royal Challengers Bangalore kept themselves alive in the competition with an eight-wicket victory against tabletoppers Gujarat Titans.

Gujarat Titans captain Hardik Pandya won the toss and elected to bat first. A fine half-century from captain Hardik Pandya helped GT finish with 168/5 in 20 overs. Pandya top-scored for the Ahmedabad-based franchise with a 47-ball 62. He smashed four fours and three sixes. Wriddhiman Saha gave a fine start to the team with a 22-ball 31.

David Miller played a handy cameo of 34 runs off 25 deliveries, smashing three sixes. Rashid Khan gave a fine finish to the team with a six-ball 19*. Josh Hazlewood was the pick of the bowlers for the Royal Challengers Bangalore with figures of 2/39.

Chasing 169 to win, Royal Challengers Bangalore scored 170/2 in 18.4 overs. Virat Kohli returned to form with a 54-ball 73. He whacked eight fours and two sixes. Glenn Maxwell finished things off in style with an 18-ball 40. The first ball he faced, Rashid Khan bowled a googly, and Glenn Maxwell tried for a slog sweep, but missed.

The ball clipped the bails. However, the bails weren’t dislodged as the ball traveled to the boundary. Reacting to the miraculous delivery after the match ended, Maxwell said:

“I didn’t hear it but when I missed it, I thought it must have been pretty close. The worst thing is picking a wrong one and missing it and thinking it’s going to hit the stumps. Sometimes, you just need some luck. In this tournament, it’s been up and down, you’ve just got to take the good with the bad.”
