On this day seven years ago, the world saw MS Dhoni for the very last time donning the white jersey for the Indian cricket team. After the 2014 Boxing Day Test match, Dhoni made a shocking decision to retire from Test cricket. He took his decision just some time after helping the Indian cricket team salvage a draw against the mighty Australian cricket team at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. It was MS Dhoni’s last Test innings and he remained unbeaten in that.
Not a single cricket fan would have thought while watching the MCG Test match of 2014 that they were seeing MS Dhoni for the last time in the Indian Test jersey. Ravi Shastri, who was in India’s backroom staff then, recently disclosed that Dhoni had dropped the bombshell very casually in the Indian dressing room on that day in Melbourne.
Twitterati was shocked after this announcement and they got very emotional as well because under Dhoni’s captaincy, the Indian Test team had attained the first position in the ICC Test Rankings. Under Dhoni’s captaincy, India dominated almost all opponents in home conditions.
How the world had reacted to MS Dhoni’s Test retirement
Seven years have passed since that day. On this day in 2021, the Indian cricket team won the SuperSport Park Test match against South Africa and became the first-ever Asian team to win a Test match in Centurion.
On that note, let’s have a look at the best tweets on MS Dhoni’s Test retirement from December 30, 2014:
