The 59th match of the 2022 edition of the Indian Premier League is in the history books now. Like previous few matches, fans witnessed another lopsided encounter in Mumbai, with the Mumbai Indians knocking the Chennai Super Kings out of the tournament with a five-wicket win. Mumbai Indians won the toss and opted to field first at the Wankhede Stadium. The decision worked in their favor as Daniel Sams, Jasprit Bumrah and Riley Meredith reduced the Chennai Super Kings to 39/6. Captain MS Dhoni saved the day for CSK and ensured that they finished with a 97-run total on the board. Dhoni ran out of partners as he remained not out on 36 runs.

Chasing 98 runs, even the Mumbai Indians lost wickets at regular intervals. They were 36/4 at the end of the powerplay courtesy of an excellent bowling performance from Mukesh Choudhary and Simarjeet Singh. However, a 32-ball 34* from Tilak Verma made sure that MI did not lose the game.

“I don’t think that’s enough irrespective of how the wicket is. Anything below 130 is difficult to defend but what I asked the bowlers to do was show a lot of character, put the opposition under pressure and forget about the result. I thought both the fast-bowlers did really well. I think a game like this really helps them.”
