The 64th match of the 2022 edition of the Indian Premier League is in the history books, with the Delhi Capitals inching a step closer to the playoffs. The Delhi-based franchise received an invitation to bat first from Punjab Kings captain Mayank Agarwal. DC scored 159/7 in 20 overs and won the game by 17 runs. Rovman Powell played a match-winning role for the team in the fielding department.
Speaking of the match between the Delhi Capitals and the Punjab Kings, DC lost the wicket of David Warner on the first ball of the game. Mitchell Marsh then played an excellent knock of 63 runs from 48 deliveries, smashing four fours and three sixes. He batted at a strike rate of 131. He received good support from Sarfaraz Khan, who opened the innings instead of KS Bharat and scored 32 runs off 16 deliveries.
The other batters could not impress much, but DC managed to end with a total of 159 runs on the board. Liam Livingstone surprised the fans with an excellent spell of 3/27 after opening the bowling for his team. Arshdeep Singh scalped three wickets as well.
Chasing 160 runs to win, Punjab Kings got off to a flying start with Jonny Bairstow and Shikhar Dhawan adding 38 runs for the first wicket in 3.5 overs. Shardul Thakur, Kuldeep Yadav and Axar Patel then wreaked havoc as PBKS collapsed from 38/0 to 82/7. Jitesh Sharma then tried to save PBKS from a defeat with a good knock of 45 runs.
