“Spirit of Cricket” – Twitter hails Shakib Al Hasan for retracting run out appeal in the 2nd ODI against Afghanistan

The Twitterati hailed the Bangladeshi all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan after the all-rounder’s ‘Spirit of Cricket’ moment during Bangladesh’s match against Afghanistan on 25th February.

The home team Bangladesh faced off against the visiting team Afghanistan in the 2nd of the 3 match ODI series on the 25th February. Bangladesh came into the match with 1-0 lead, which they further extended to 2-0, winning the 2nd ODI by a massive 88 runs, after scoring 306 runs in their 50 overs, thanks to a century from Liton Das.

However, during the 17th over of the Afghanistan inning, something happened that won the hearts of the fans and the cricket world throughout.

Shakib Al Hasan was bowling the 17th over of the Afghanistan inning with Afghanistan already lost 3 wickets and Rahmat Shah and Najibullah Zadran were at the crease.

The ball before the incident, Najibullah Zadran smashed a cracker of a boundary beating through the fingers of Shakib. The very next ball, Zadran played the same shot, but this time the ball hits the stumps on non-striker end with Rahmat Shah completely out of crease.

However, Shakib Al Hasan was not sure if the ball had touched his fingers and retracted the appeal, but the third umpire still had a look but the Bangladeshi players decided to take back the appeal, and the third umpire came to a conclusion that the ball didn’t touch Shakib’s fingers, thus, not out was called.

Ever since then, the Bangladesh’s number one all-rounder is being praised a lot by the fans and the cricket fraternity for his Spirit of Cricket moment during the match. Eventually Shah went on to score a fifty and then was dismissed by Taskin Ahmed on the 25th over.

Talking of the match, Bangladesh came into the match with a 1-0 lead in the series. They posted 306 runs on the board, thanks to a century from Liton Das and a half-century from Mushfiqur Rahim.

Afghanistan was bowled out for 218, with Najibullah Zadran and Rahmat being the top run scorer for them. Every Bangladeshi bowlers got a wicket each, but Shakib and Taskin got 2 wickets each.

The moment of Shakib Al Hasan’s kind will on everybody’s throughout the year.
